Ar Shelving joins ‘Make it Zero’ industrial decarbonisation initiative
Ar Shelving confirms its commitment to sustainability by joining the ‘Make it Zero’ industrial decarbonisation initiative
- This represents a further step forward in the company’s strategic decision making in order to implement low-emission steel in its products, including the D-Carbon and Salcos® projects
- Ar Shelving aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 85% by 2030 and by 95% by 2050
Ar Shelving has taken a further step forward in its commitment to industrial decarbonisation by joining the Make it Zero group, a global non-profit initiative that brings together the main agents in the DIY and home improvement sector.
This follows on from the strategic decisions that Ar Shelving has adopted in recent years to implement the use low-emission steel in its products, including the D-Carbon and Salcos® programmes. The first project is an ambitious initiative that is directly linked to Make it Zero’s aims, demonstrating Ar Shelving commitment to sustainability: the development of the first complete range of shelving made from low-emission steel which will reduce Scope 3, known as value chain emissions.
Meanwhile and alongside other companies within the industry, Ar Shelving is taking part in the Salcos® programme, which focuses on the development of new sustainable steel manufacturing processes which seek to reduce CO2 emissions by 85% by 2030 and by 95% by 2050.
The Make it Zero initiative is promoted by EDRA/GHIN, an association of home improvement retailers with 230 members and over 35,000 stores in 79 countries. It was launched last year in Rome as part of the DIY Summit trade fair with a single goal: to unite retailers and suppliers in order to invest and work together to decarbonise the sector’s supply chain.
The Basque company’s support for the initiative came in response to an invitation from the promoter of this trade fair, considered to be one of the most important in international DIY and to which Ar Shelving will be present in June as a platinum partner.
Make it Zero was born out of the realisation that carbon emissions in the sector’s supply chain could represent up to 98% of a DIY supplier’s carbon footprint. This initiative will give retailers and suppliers the opportunity to have direct contact with Ricardo, one of the world’s leading international environmental consultants in order to better understand key aspects of the decarbonisation process, such as the measurement of emissions and how to implement corrective measures.
Over the last two years, the initiatives associated with the Make it Zero initiative have risen to 500,000 euros.
